Most of the 660,000 people living in the United States with kidney failure require dialysis or a kidney transplant to survive, expensive treatments that can mostly only be accessed through health insurance or in emergency situations. But for Víctor and Felipe, two of the 6,500 undocumented immigrants living in the country with this condition, accessing dialysis or a transplant is even more difficult. For years they have been navigating the health system trying to survive while achieving a solution.
